Early years

Hey!! 😀

Welcome to my first ever blog post!

I’m Jodine Boothby, previously known as Jodine O’Donoghue before I married Gummee Daddee.

I was a very quiet, shy little girl, and had no confidence what so ever. (Anyone who knows me now may find that hard to believe, haha! It’s true though, ask my Mum & Dad! 😉 )

I was born and grew up in Coventry, and I’m a city girl at heart.

I moved to Cornwall aged 19, and I have lived here for almost 20 years, and now that I have my own little family here it feels like home. However, I will always miss my hometown, and all my family and friends that still live there.

I didn’t learn very well at school, I wasn’t academic at all. I didn’t like school, as I felt like I was out of my comfort zone every day that I was there. I moved around to quite a few different schools, 7 in total, and I have moved house no less than 14 times throughout my life, which I think has made me rather adaptable!

I stayed on in School to do 6th form Business, but spent most of that time in the bushes outside the school gates, smoking! (Sorry Mum, sorry Dad)

After finally getting a good job at Barclays telephone banking centre in Coventry, aged 19, I decided I wanted to move to Cornwall to join my cousin Claire. She’d moved here when we were both 15 and I missed her terribly because we’d spent so much of our life together before she left.

I went on to work in a Cornish bakery, hand crimping Cornish pasty’s and making pies. This was my 27th job, I’d done everything from strawberry picking to bar work to Cafe cook and magazine packer!

To cut a long story short, I met Steve (Gummee Daddee) at the Cornish bakery and we obviously got married and had babies. Our first child was born in 2011 and constantly chewed on his hands and I was amazed to discover that nothing existed on the market for babies who were too young to hold a teething toy.

To cut another very long story short, my invention, the Worlds first teething mitten designed solely for babies to wear, Gummee glove launched in May 2012. We now have a range of teethers, for every stage of teething. We are a tiny, family run business and we run the business around our family.

Our social media accounts for Gummee have always been mostly Business focus, but I’m about to change that. Unfortunately, as with all great products, Gummee glove has been copied numerous times, so it is important to now use social media for its purpose – to be more sociable and to show you exactly who you’re talking to when you buy our products.

I’m a Mum, first and foremost, and therefore safety and quality is of the upmost importance to me and the whole of the Gummee team. I can be reached directly on Instagram, it is me personally running the Gummee Instagram account and answering all of the messages on there, and Facebook is looked after by myself and Gummee Lucy, who is also one of my best friends and helps with the day to day running of Gummee
